Greg and I began trying to have a family a few years after we were married. We tried on our own unsuccessfully for a year, then it was a trip to the family doctor. I had some tests done and so did Greg. It was discovered that we had male factor issues, so it was immediately to the fertility specialist. We got our appointment and began the process for IVF immediately. I responded well, had 12 eggs fertilized and frozen. We did two intrauterine transfers and no pregnancy. It was then decided that maybe we should check me out further. After my laparoscopy it was discovered that I had moderate to extreme endometriosis. So we began another drug regime and put my body into pre-mature menopause. I was monitored for a few months, with daily blood work again and ultrasounds, once they felt the endometriosis was under control we did another cycle of IVF. This too resulted in no pregnancy.
We had been trying fertility treatments for a couple of years at this point and I was at the point where I was tired of the early morning blood work, being poked and prodded, the constant medications/drugs with the huge side effects, and basically feeling like a human pin cushion. We had a decision to make. It was either we decide we were not going to have kids or we needed to pursue the route of adoption. We had spent all our money on IVF treatments and therefore, couldn't afford an overseas or a local private adoption. So we contacted our local Children's Aid Society and began the process......
