When we finally got him to take them off he put them beside the front door because I explained to him that I had signed him up for skating lessons and they started the next morning. When he woke up the next day he was like, "Do I get to go to my skating lessons now?" I was like, "No we have a little time first."
Anyway, we got bundled up and headed to the arena. We got there, again he took one look at the crowd and that was it. He was having no part of putting his skates on and getting on that ice. I explained to him that if he didn't take skating lessons he would not be able to learn to play hockey and that if we left we were going to return the skates because if you don't learn to skate we are not going to keep them. He decided that was the decision he was making, so we left and returned the skates.
There are family skating times, etc. and free skating at the park but with Greg's back injury this year I knew we wouldn't be able to take him. We've thought about it and think that maybe we'll try him on skates next year but doing the "family" thing and get him comfortable before we sign him up for lessons....and who knows by next year maybe the crowd thing won't be so scary for him!
Plus, if you could see the excitement in his eyes when he got the skates.......I think it's worth another shot, just not this year.
