Mine aren't Listening!

So last night I took both boys to the Little Gym (the first week only CJ went).....we tried a class last night with Kai and CJ together. Well, for the first 5 minutes both boys sat on the red mat and slightly participated and then from there it went completely downhill. They wouldn't do anything the teacher asked, all the did was run around and "check out" the equipment...at no point did they participate from that point on. I was sitting outside becoming more and more mortified as the class progressed. The teachers kept trying to "bring them back" to the group but neither one was having anything to do with it. Now, we don't know if CJ wasn't participating because his brother was there or if he was just extremely overtired and was having no part of it....the other instructions sitting outside watching me shrink in my chair kept telling me it's completely normal and this is what kids do. Listening is a skill they have to learn....blah blah blah....yeah, great, but that didn't make me feel any better while I was sitting there. Anyway, we've decided not to put Kai in the class right now with CJ and see how CJ does on his own for a while. The teachers also did point out that the other little boy in the class that was listening etc. has participated in the Little Gym before so it wasn't all "new" to him and he knew what was expected.....oh well, here's hoping that CJ's "listening ears" are back next week!

I can identify! I hate it when it's my kid who's doing the opposite of what the teacher asked for. I'm sure they'll both settle in once it becomes part of their routine.
