CJ has been having issues getting on the bus in the morning going to school. He's fine standing at the bus stop waiting for the bus, as soon as his bus comes around the corner he stiffens up, starts to cry and hide behind us. We didn't know what was going on and couldn't figure out why. The first couple of days he was fine.
I started thinking about other ways we could get him to school. I didn't want to just take him off the bus immediately, cause I didn't want him to think he just had to fuss and he wouldn't have to do something he didn't want to do, but I also didn't want to put him on the bus and traumatize the poor child. Anyway, I found a before school program that had spots still and it's in his school and he will start with them on Monday. So he will go there when it opens at 7:30 a.m. and they will walk him to his classroom.
However, the interesting part of this story is that the other night CJ said to daddy that he didn't like the big kids on the bus. Which makes sense. CJ doesn't like changes very well and doesn't do well in a big crowd. When he gets on the bus in the morning he's the last one to get on. So the bus is full and he's having to go back to the middle of the bus and sit in amongst the bigger kids. When he gets on the bus at school (which so far hasn't been an issue), he's the first to get on, gets to sit in the front. He's also the last to be dropped off so when he's getting off the bus he's getting off with two other kids that are the same size as him.
Last night CJ and I went for a little walk around the block and there were some teenagers sitting on the side of the street. We had been walking along beside each other, when we got up to the other kids, he reached out grabbed my hand and once we were past them he let go. I thought this was very interesting and confirmed the fact that on the bus he doesn't like the big kids.
Anyway, he starts at the before school program on Monday so I'm hoping that this will go smoothly and that he will continue to not have any issues riding the bus home after school. Other than the bus, his transition to a new school as gone quite smoothly. Thank goodness!
